Mindfulness Meditation - Simple Techniques to Relax and Be Present Mindfulness Meditation is the concept of a relaxed state of mind. Mindfulness is basically a state of present awareness. When someone has a relaxed state of mind, they are aware of the conscious experiences which include thoughts and feelings, breathing, surroundings, sensations. When the mind is relaxed, the person can be more peaceful, at ease and accepting of the present moment. There are many reasons to practice mindfulness meditation, but the number one reason is the fact of where it takes a person. The mind takes faith and each moment and allows the body to fully experience the moment. There are no critical thoughts or self correcting or reactive thoughts. In today’s society, we are so busy and overwhelmed, at times even forgetting what it feels like to feel alive. Life goes by in so many different ways with obstacles and detours and it can be emotionally numbing to us sometimes. Mindfulness meditation can bring the mind back to the state of ease, relaxation and awe at the same time. The technique is rather straight forward. The first step is adjusting your body posture. The person must be sitting straight up but be comfortable. When the posture is set and the eyes are closed, the next step is to remain still and relax. Once the body is relaxed, it’s time to begin to clear your mind, but do not try to control or resist any thoughts. The person will want to be mindful of their breathing while becoming aware and relaxing their thoughts at the same time. As the breathing continues to deepen and get more relaxed, the body should begin to feel lighter. The stomach will soften as the person exhales. Once tension starts to leave the body, emotions begin to surface. This is ok, just a sign that the person is entering mindfulness. The key ingredient to mindfulness meditation is non-resistance. The person will want to let go of all pain, emotionally and physically with each breath they take. However, this can sometimes be hard to do. People simply just need to let it happen and not force the process of “letting go”. Mindfulness meditation is a simple technique that can help bring a state of self-awareness to any participant. Just be aware of your breathing and relax! Permission is granted to republish this article on your
